As a result of the current world military situation, the Girl Scouts of Hawaii decided to repeat last year’s successful cookie campaign, “Operation Girl Scout Cookies.” The 2003 operation resulting in the sending of more than 4,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to our military troops overseas. The public may purchase cookies for our Hawaii troops based overseas (or for yourself) at any cookie sale booth or they can call the Girl Scout Council of Hawaii at 595-8400 to find the nearest cookie booth location. The cookie sale continues through February 9, 2004.

Ogilvy & Mather Hawaii, Inc. has promoted Holly Kaneko (l) to Director of Creative Services and Holly Imai (r) to Account Executive. Kaneko will be responsible for interactive and presentation technical support, print production administrative management, vendor resources and relations, and coordination of the agency’s internal systems. Imai will manage the day-to-day activities and external programs and promotions for several agency
accounts, including Hawaii Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.

The Cheesecake Factory’s Very Grand Opening benefit generated more than $30,000 for the Friends of the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii and the Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation. The benefit, held in December 2003, was to celebrate the opening of the new restaurant at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. The Friends of the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii works to prevent and reduce cancer–related death and suffering by promoting community support of cancer research and education focused on the opportunities unique to Hawaii. The Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation assists, supports and advocates the needs of patients, families and long-term survivors of childhood cancer by providing state-of-the-art health care. The Foundation is dedicated to children who are battling cancer, to those who have survived, and those who survive in our hearts.

The Hawaii Alliance for Arts Education has received $20,000 from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for Fiscal Year 2004. Hawaii was one of only 11 state arts alliances that received the full amount of funding allowed. The grant will be used for general operation support.

Castle & Cooke Homes Hawaii, Inc. has named Kenneth A. Ching as the Realtor of the Month. The award honors Ching for his accomplishments as top home sales agent during the month of December 2003. Ching joined Castle & Cooke Homes Hawaii, Inc. in 1989 as a real estate agent and has more than 20 years of real estate experience. He also is broker-in-charge for the company.

The Jefferson School in Waikiki needs dedicated volunteers to assist Vista volunteers with children in grades K-3 who are having difficulty in reading. The National Association of Home Builders’ Institute of Residential Marketing has just announced the designation of Cicely “Cis” George as a Certified New Home Marketing Professional (CMP). George’s designation as a CMP is based on her sales and marketing experience in the home building industry. Additionally, extensive education is required for the designation. George has been in the new-home sales and marketing field for 10 years and is presently sales manager at Leolani in Hawaii Kai for Schuler Homes, a D.R. Horton Company.
