TheoDavies Food Service Group has acquired
the franchise rights to the Long John Silver’s and A&W All American
Food restaurants for the Hawaii market. Initially, TheoDavies Food Service
Group will take over operations of the existing restaurant location in the
Moanalua Shopping Center. “By year’s end, we plan to open our first
new dual brand restaurant on Oahu,” said Henry Katsuda, President and
CEO of Theo-Davies Food Service Group. The company plans to open
additional free-standing restaurants with dining room seating and
convenient drive-through service, as well as in-mall restaurants with
limited seating, in 2004. • • • The Macy’s stores at Windward Mall, Kahala
Mall, Pearlridge Center, Downtown Honolulu, and Prince Kuhio Plaza (Hilo)
were recognized by the State Senate for their participation in Macy’s
recent “More Community” campaign, which raised over $370,000 for the
Hawaii community. The “More Community Campaign” funds raised by
Macy’s in Hawaii were donated to Aloha United Way, American Cancer
Society, Hawaii Foodbank and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Honolulu, Maui

opened its doors nearly 30 years ago in Lahaina, welcomed its first Oahu
guests in mid May, 2003. The restaurant is located on Ala Moana Center’s
third level and offers the same experiences – great food, great service
and wonderful atmosphere – that have earned numerous awards for the
Longhi’s restaurants in Lahaina and Wailea. • • • Argosy University/Honolulu announces the
establishment of a master of arts degree in clinical psychology,
concentration in school psychology training program, the first training
program of its kind in the state established to meet the state and
national standards for school psychologists. The program is slated to
begin this fall and has already begun accepting applications. • • • People Attentive
to Children (PATCH), a non-profit organization dedicated to improving
Hawaii’s childcare needs, announced
that Nalani Matsuo, of Tesoro Hawaii Corporation, was named as the 2003
President. The other new officers for 2003 are Sherri Aoyama,
Vice-President; William Kern, Secretary; Leona Seto-Mok, Treasurer. • • • Young Brothers and
Hawaiian Tug & Barge named Jeff Conners as Port Captain in the
Maritime Operations department. He brings over 30 years of marine industry
experience as the former Shipyard Commander of the U.S. Naval Ship Repair
Facility in Yokosuka, Japan, and prior to that the Shipyard Commander at
Pearl Harbor. Connors is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and he also
earned an engineering degree from MIT in Naval Architecture and Marine
Engineering. • • • Morton’s, The Steakhouse Honolulu,
recently thanked the cabbies of Hawaii with a free steak lunch. Cabbies
“drove through” the restaurant’s porte-cochere for the steak
sandwich lunch hand-off. Over 200 lunches were served throughout the day
to everything from taxis to shuttles to Hummer limousines. • • • Hawaii Insurance Consultants, Ltd., a
subsidiary of AIG Hawaii, has promoted Richard Beaton (l) and Ann Nakagawa
(r) to vice presidents. Bea-ton has a background that includes nearly 40
years of successful and progressive data processing development,
management and computer technology. Beaton worked previously as vice
president of financial services for Computab Inc., and held management
positions at Foodland Super Markets, Ltd., and Computer Systems
International, Ltd. Nakagawa has extensive experience in insurance
accounting and auditing. In addition to her role as vice president of HIC,
Nakagawa will continue to serve as vice president and assistant
comptroller for AIG Hawaii. • • • Mona Abadir, chief operating officer of Honu
Group, Inc., and Edward Gerard, vice president of Tiffany & Co.,
presented checks for $10,000 to the following organizations:
Hawai’i Opera Theatre, Diamond
Head Theatre and Hawai’i Theatre Center. The checks were presented
on behalf of 2100 Kalakaua Avenue – the luxury shopping destination
developed by Honu Group, and the Storyteller Partnership – the alliance
of world-class retailers (including Tiffany & Co.) at 2100 Kalakaua
Avenue and many of Hawaii’s most prestigious arts and cultural
organizations. The Storyteller Partnership is dedicated to perpetuating
the arts in Hawaii. • • • The Continuing Care Accreditation Commission
(CCAC), the nation’s only independent accrediting body for continuing
care retirement communities, has awarded Arcadia Retirement Residence with
its “seal of excellence,” distinguishing Arcadia as the first and only
continuing care residence in Hawaii to receive this honor. The award is
conferred upon those organizations that meet or exceed the CCAC’s 17
standards of excellence in three critical areas: governance; finance and
strategy; and health and wellness. • • • The American Institute of Architects, Honolulu
Chapter, has named Amy Blagriff its new Executive
Vice President. Blagriff has a long history of working and
volunteering in the non-profit sector, and brings to the Chapter a strong
and diverse background in member-service, management and administration,
mar-keting/communications, leadership development and educational
programming. • • • Kamaaina Kids first annual Earth Day
community service project and fundraiser netted over $30,000 in donations.
The project also collected nearly 14,000 pounds of recyclable aluminum and
glass at its eleven preschools, while school-age keiki picked up hundreds
of bags of litter during their statewide Earth Day Litter Clean-up Day in
late April 2003. • • • Familian Northwest has a new look. The
company recently unveiled its new company logo, which was designed to
resemble the successful logo of its sister company, Ferguson, Inc. The
logo is in the shape of weld ends, symbolic of FNW’s mainline of
business – plumbing & piping products. The new logo uses the acronym
FNW because the company has grown to cover a wider territory than just the
Northwest. • • • On June 4th, 2003, Hermès will celebrate
the opening of its store in Ala Moana, located at 1450 Ala Moana
Boulevard. For this special opening, Hermès will reprint a limited
edition of the Aloha scarf, personalized with “Ala Moana 2003”
exclusively available through this new location. • • • Hawaii accounting firm Karns Murakami & Hanashiro LLP has changed its name to KMH LLP.
