"Da Kine"

Best Day Of My Life
Today
was the best day of my life! Work was harder than usual and my boss was uptight.
The
task at hand seemed never ending and much too great for me. I also forgot my
key-card to park in the building and had to find parking several blocks away and
pay double my usual. Let me also mention I can’t get into the building without
my card.
Today
was the best day of my life! Outside it was 86 degrees in the shade with a
humidity factor of 90 percent. Did I fail to say my car has a busted A/C unit
and I chose to wear a silk shirt today?
Before
I make my way home I decide to put gas at Costco because my tank was on “K.”
Yeah, way beyond “E.” I then catch every red light right before I hit
bumper-to-bumper traffic on the H-1 Ewa-bound due to a slipper on the far right
hand lane. Thankfully, this only lasted for a couple of hours. Finally, I arrive
at Costco only to sit in a line that’s all the way to Sam’s Club. Behold! I
now am the first in line and I fill’er up and make my way home on a quarter
tank.
Today
was the best day of my life! I’m now home. I walk to my door but can’t find
my keys. “Oh, there it is,” right where I left them last, in the ignition of
my car and the doors locked. I’m fortunate the car wasn’t still running. So,
I jump on the cell and call my wife to find out when she’ll be home and she
answers, “Hello?” then “click,” dead air. Did I forget to charge my
phone again? Plan B: climb the fence. I must say this may be difficult, with a
bad shoulder from high school wrestling, a bum ankle from concrete tackle
football during my adolescent years, and not to mention being 50 pounds
overweight.
I
did it! I did it! I made it over and in under one hour! As I was celebrating
giving myself high-fives, I was surprised when I heard a voice. It was my wife
looking out from the kitchen asking me why I climbed the fence when the gate
wasn’t locked. Hmmm?
On
the decline, I sit in front of the set to catch the final newscast for the
evening. Like clock work, there he is, Joe Moore with the headlines: “11
killed in attack…three Americans dead from car bomb…Suicide deaths up 4
percent from last year…Priest admits to molesting children for over 20
years.” Etc, etc, etc.
Enough
already! I shut the TV, lock the doors and turn off the lights and make my way
to bed. I check on my children as they peacefully sleep, I climb into bed and
huddle up to my wife’s warm body as she turns and asks, “How was your day
today?” I smile.
